Looking Heavenward
When those we’ve loved dearly
From this life have flown;
When our hearts bow with sorrow
And we seem so alone;
Then turn thee to Jesus
Who upholds with His hand,
’Til we cross Jordan’s river
And enter the Land.
We love you so dearly,
Your sorrows we share;
On all sides we’re troubled,
But not in despair:
For the path of the just
Is a shining, bright ray;
Shining more, ever more,
’Til that blest, perfect day.
When the silver cord loosens,
And the golden bowl breaks;
When the music is halted
God never forsakes.
The spirit to heaven
Shall then take its flight
To the city foursquare
Where cometh no night.
The streets are pure gold;
And jasper--the wall;
Those gates made of pearl
Shall not shut at all.
And God shall wipe tears
Away from their eyes,
For all things are new,
And nobody dies.
Yes, there we shall join them
Who’ve gone on before--
Yea, happy that people
Whose hope is the Lord.

When those we love dearly
Find life is so brief;

And we bend low with grief;
